A Home Where Dreams Take Root
Henness House is the labor of love of the Newburn family. Our journey to Henness House began long before we held its keys. For decades, these mountains shaped our lives, tested our courage, expanded our capacity for awe, and reminded us as our family grew what we truly valued in life.
We found ourselves —our truest selves—in these granite cathedrals and beneath these star-filled skies. Now as parents, we share this place with our children and experience it again through their eyes.
This home represents our profound belief that certain landscapes have the power to transform lives. Creating Henness House is our way of sharing this transformative power with others who seek it.
Rooted in History
The walls of Henness House hold stories that extend far beyond our stewardship. The original owner served as an archivist at Yosemite's museum, dedicating their life to preserving the park's rich cultural and natural history. Just three doors down stands the former home of Ansel Adams, whose revolutionary photography introduced millions to Yosemite's splendor and helped build the conservation movement.
During our 2024 renovation, we partnered exclusively with local craftspeople who share our reverence for this land. Our lead contractor, Don, seemed to emerge from the very granite that surrounds us—a man whose hands understand the textures, rhythms, and character of Yosemite as intimately as his own heartbeat. Through his expertise and that of other local artisans, we've created a space that honors the past while embracing the present.
